Drive Away Cancer

During the July monthly business meeting, the Executive Board and those members in attendance voted to donate $500.00 to Drive Away Cancer - a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  It began in 2011, with VARA driver John Nikas driving a coast-to-coast-to-coast sprint in a dilapidated 1953 Austin-Healey 100 named Grace to encourage her owner Mike Newsome in his fight with stage 4 Multiple Myeloma, yet thanks to an incredibly special girl named Amy who John and Grace met during that very first sprint -- the mission has evolved into so much more.  The Drive Away Cancer cars have logged well over 100,000 miles visiting cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, not with the goal of curing cancer but rather to spread awareness and to give people affected by cancer a much-needed break from it, wind in the hair, "little British car" style.  We heartily encourage donations to this worthy organization.
